Olive oil soap is the organic wash product that is created from the combination of pressed olive extract and the ashes of sea plants.

The creation of olive oil soap is an intriguing an ancient story. Whilst the Phoenicians were revelling in the tasteful delights of the olive, spreading it throughout Italy, Greece, Spain and Turkey, there were another set of people who realised the alternative values of this extraordinary fruit.

Ironically whilst the Romans, pioneers of sanitation and cleanliness, focused on the cultivation of the olive to produce oil for cooking, 6th century Frenchman developed a remarkable technique for making soap. By combining pressed olives with the burnt remains of sea plants they created the first examples of olive oil soap. The first production plants were installed in Marseille, as the ability to mass-produce became a necessity. Replica factories in Portugal, Italy and Turkey soon followed as the benefits of making olive oil soap shone through. However, the spiritual home of soap making remained in Marseille and in the late 20th century there were over 100 factories in the city, designed for that sole purpose.

Olive oil soap is made through the merging of the ashes of sea plant extracts and pressed olives. Similar to the production of olive oil, the accompaniment of tons of heavy ashes forms produce into a thick green paste. Today, this paste is held in giant cauldrons, which fully mix the two primary ingredients. The paste is the compressed under extreme pressure and then divided into pre-designed moulds. These moulds are then either wrapped or emblazoned with the company logo ready for distribution. The process in one which is born out of previous centuries and still uses old an outdated machinery, something for which it is revered for in French society.

The formation of olive oil soap withstands any detrimental additives that are abundant in ordinary wash products. However, it is not just its organic production that makes it particularly popular. The health benefits of olive oil soap are overwhelming, a contributing factor to its favoured status with the medical profession. Olive oil itself has often been considered a natural source that is a key element in the fight against heart disease and cancer. People often look to the vast elderly population of Mediterranean countries and attribute it to rich levels of olive oil in their diet. These countries also have one of the lowest incidence rates of skin cancer in Europe, despite living and working in some of the hottest climates. Again the use of olive soap has been used to explain this phenomenon.
